After the loss against South Africa & Australia Indian team were in big trouble to qualify for the semis but against the New Zealand after captain Mithali Raj (109), Veda Krishnamurthy (70) & Harmanpreet Kaur’s (60) batting performance Rajeshwari Gayakwad took 5 for 15 in her first world cup match and India won the match by 186 runs and qualify for the semis. Australia was the first choice in that match.
Due to rain, the match reduced to 42 over match. Mithali Raj won the toss & elected to bat first. India lost 2 wickets of in first 10 overs. Then Mithali & Harmanpreet Kaur’s added 66 runs in next 15 overs. India were 3 for 101 in 24.6 overs. As only 17 overs remaining. To beat defending champions Indian team required big total and Harmanpreet took responsibility and at one stage it looks like India will finish near about 210-230 but Harmanpreet’s inning extended the total to 281. The partnership between Harmanpreet & Deepti Sharma were important as both added 137 runs in 82 balls then with Veda, Harman added 43 runs in 20 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 171* in 115 balls with 20 fours & 7 sixes. Schutt, Gardner, Beams & Villani took 1 wicket each.
282 in 42 in the semifinal was big total for that Australia required good solid start but Indian bowler took 3 quick wickets on just 21 and that put Australia on the back foot. After this Villani (75) & Ellyse Perry (38) gave some hope to their fans by adding 105 runs for 4th wicket but both got out in quick succession. Then Alex Blackwell scored 90 in 56 balls but she didn’t get support from other end & that was not enough to cross the winning line and India won the match by 36 runs and enter into the Final of the Women’s World Cup for the 2nd time after 2005. In the Final, India will play against host England. In bowling Deepti Sharma took 3 wickets, Jhulan Goswami & Shikha Pandey took 2 wickets each where Poonam Yadav & Rajeshwari Gayakwad took 1 wicket each. Harmanpreet Kaur awarded the player of the match for her 171*(115).
