The first match of any series was important for that India to need a good start in the opening match. Virat won the toss & elected to bat first on batting friendly wicket. As Hardik Pandya included in playing 11 instead of Rohit Sharma. Also after the good performance in practice match, Kuldeep Yadav not included in final 11.

The new opening combination for India Abhinav Mukund & Shikhar Dhawan. As Murali Vijay out of the series due to injury while KL Rahul not playing this match due fever. After a long time Shikhar Dhawan playing in test match so he didn’t want to lose this opportunity and continue his limited over form in longer format also. After adding just 27 for 1st wicket Mukund (12) got out but then Dhawan & Pujara didn’t give any chance to Sri Lankan bowler. Dhawan was in his attacking mode both were added 253 runs in 47 overs and that put pressure on Sri Lankan team. Dhawan got out after scoring his highest test score 190. Dhawan hits 31 fours in his inning of 190.

After 2 overs India loose big wicket of Kohli (3) but then Pujara & Rahane didn’t give any opportunity to Sri Lankan team to back into the match. Pujara continued his form & scored his 12th Test 100. At the end of Day 1, India scored 399 for the loss of 3 wickets. Pujara (144*) & Rahane (39*) still in the crease. 399 is the highest total India scored in the away test match. For Sri Lanka Nuwan Pradeep was the pick of the bowler he took 3 wickets for 64. After Day 1 Indian team in commanding position. India will add 150-200 runs on 2nd day & that will increases the pressure on Sri Lanka.
