1st match of the season and that too between two strongest teams in the history of the IPL. Mumbai Indians lead by Rohit Sharma where after two-year ban Chennai Super King lead by India’s most successful captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Toss always a key factor at Wankhede due to dew. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first. Rohit Sharma & Kevin Lewis open the inning for Mumbai. Where Deepak Chahar open the bowling attack for CSK. After beating in the first bowl with swing Rohit tried to send bowl out of the park but he didn’t connect the bowl and at one point Mumbai was 2 for 20 in 3.5 overs but then young Surya Kumar Yadav (43) & Ishan Kishan (40) took responsibility and they didn’t give time to settle down CSK spinners (Jadeja, Harbhajan & Imran Tahir). Both were looking dangerous then Suryakumar Yadav got out while trying to play big shot. Before Yadav got out Yadav & Kishan added 78 runs and Mumbai were 98 for 3 in 12.3 and then Kishan got out in 15th over. After this Krunal (41*) & Hardik Pandya (22*) added 52 runs for the 5th wicket and Mumbai scored 165/4 in 20 overs. For CSK Watson took 2 wickets for 29 where Deepak Chahar & Tahir took one wicket each.
166 was not a big total at Wankhede and to restrict CSK Mumbai need to bowl really well. Ambati Raydu & Shane Watson new opening pair for CSK come to chase 166. Raydu (22) & Watson (16) gave the good start and both added 27 runs in 3.4 overs after Watson got out Raima joined to Rayudu. In 6th over Raina (4) got out and then CSK lost their way and they were 51 for in 8.3 overs then Jadeja and Kedar Jadhav added some runs but Mumbai bowlers took wickets at regular intervals. Also, Kedar Jadhav left the field due to hamstring and looks after 5 years Mumbai will start their season with a win but Dwayne Bravo was in another mind set. CSK were 118 for 8 in 16.3 overs and Bravo and Imran Tahir were at the crease. Bravo was hitting a ball really well.
CSK required 47 runs in 3 overs. In 18th over bowled by Mitchell, McClenaghan Bravo scored 20 runs with 2 sixes & a four and also keep strike for 19th over. Still, Mumbai had the chance to win the game because death overs specialist Bumrah & Mustafizur Rehman were going to bowl last two overs. But Bravo hit 2 consecutive sixes in 19th over bowled by Bumrah and again he hit 3rd six on 5th ball of the over and then got out for 68. Then Kedar Jadhav came back to bat with hamstring issues for the team while 7 required in last over. Kedar was unable to run so he was looking for the big shot. On first 3 balls, he didn’t score run and it looks Mumbai will win the match but then Kedar hit six on the fine leg and equal the total. Where only 1 run required in 2 balls most of the players in the circle he hit the 5th ball for four and won the match for his team by 1 wicket & 1 ball to spare. It was the great to start of the 11 the season of IPL.Impressive debut by 20 year’s old Mayank Markhande as he took wickets of Dhoni, Raydu & Deepak Chahar with his googly. For Mumbai Hardik Pandya & Mayank Markhande took 3 wickets each and supported by Bumrah, Mustafizur and McClenaghan with one wicket each. Dwayne Bravo awards by the player of the match for his 68 runs in 30 balls with 7 sixes and 3 fours.
